Thanksgiving Dinner

November 10, 2013

6:00 PM

Fellowship Hall

The Disciples Women will host the annual Thanksgiving Dinner on November 10 at 6:00 PM in Fellowship Hall.

Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, noodles, dressing, rolls, and drinks will be provided. Please bring your own table service and a vegetable, salad and/or dessert to share.

We have added a new event this year: Silent Auction. There will be five baskets in the Parlor on November 3 and 10 to bid on; we will take them to Fellowship Hall during the dinner. Each basket will go to the highest bidder. A basket will be made by each group of the Disciples Women. 20% of the money made on the baskets will go to the Salvation Army and 80% will help with the cabinetry to be purchased for the south kitchen wall.

Please begin making reservations on the Friendship Register for this dinner. Just put a number beside your name and we will know it is a reservation for the dinner.

You won’t want to miss it!

KELLY'S KORNER

Thank you! What a kind and caring congregation you are. Anne and I are so fortunate, so blessed to have found you. At every turn you have enriched and encouraged us. I am so glad to be your minister. Thank you for appreciating our shared ministry so well. The lunch, the cards and the heart-felt comments are a bit overwhelming—in a very good way.

Believe it or not, I have known churches and ministers who do not always get along so well together. This has happened for a variety of reasons. With that knowledge, let us give thanks to God for what is happening in the life of our church right now. Let us truly see God’s presence in our midst. Let us continue to celebrate well, realizing God’s joy is ours.

This week our worship will focus on Luke 18:9-14, a famous story about the prayer of a Pharisee and that of a tax collector. Jesus makes some harsh remarks about the Pharisee who is prideful. The tax collector, hated by his community, is praised by Jesus for his humility. May we find a bit of divine help as we study this passage.

I hope to see all of you during the fall festival either as a participant or volunteer. This is a great opportunity for us to share our friendship and kindness with our community. We are hopeful that people will understand our commitment to young families in the sharing of the upcoming activities. Please invite your neighbors and friends. As you eat out this week, take along a flier and give it to a young family in the restaurant. Send people to our website for more information.

The prayer of the tax collector is “God be merciful…” Our fall festival probably will not help one to know God’s mercy or be an overwhelming conversion experience for anyone. But, quite possibly, it can be a first step for someone’s journey of faith. We are hopeful to partner and walk with that person at First Christian Church. God be merciful.

Peace, Kelly
