KELLY'S KORNER

This week I head out to Oklahoma. It is never easy to break away for vacation.  There are always extra things to do - house-sitter (more for the cat than the house, you know) and loose ends, both at work and home, that must be taken care of - you get the idea. I’d like to say thanks to all the folks who help make getting away possible.

To our staff, primarily Annetta, Bill and Paul. They will handle the administrative and worship tasks superbly while I am away - just as superbly as they do when I am not away. It is nice to be able to share in this work and ministry together with such capable friends.

To Anne, who has been patient with a busier than usual schedule during the Capital Campaign. She says she is excited to get away and I am grateful she still likes traveling with me after all these years! I love her dearly and am ready to have down time together. There is no better support of the ministries (and minister) at FCC Macomb. I truly appreciate her and I know you do too.

To Terry Foland, who will travel over to be our preacher. He is even standing in for me at the graveside services for Enid Gibble on Friday. It is great to have such collegial cooperation and friendship. I am sure you will all be welcoming hosts to our dear friend on his return.

To you, the congregation. Thanks for understanding the need for relaxation and down time and making that a priority. I promise to come back rejuvenated and prepared for the next tasks - primarily in this next week or two, let us all catch our breath, get some rest and take a little Sabbath. Even God rested on the seventh day. But, Monday always follows Sunday - it’s an analogy. As faithful people, we will always have faithful work to attend to and I am excited to share in this work alongside you. For now, though, we can take a break and celebrate the good work which has just occurred.

See you soon!

Peace, Kelly

Festival of the Creche

For the past seven years, “Festival of the Creche” has been held at our church. This event takes place the first weekend in December during Dickens on the Square. Members of the congregation are asked to bring one or all of their nativity scenes to the church to be displayed in the sanctuary and parlor. No nativity scene is too small, too big, or too old. The event is open to the public with free admission.

There will be a meeting on Wednesday, October 16 at 3:00 p.m. to make plans for this event. If you are interested in helping, please attend this meeting.

If you are interested in helping and cannot attend the meeting, please contact: (837 4406) or email: jeanvaughn468@yahoo.com

Reconciliation Offering:  October 13, 2013

The 2013 Reconciliation Offering will be received at First Christian Church on October 13, 2013.

The Special Offering is used to fund our Church’s mission priority to become an pro-reconciling/ anti-racist church through experiential education, inclusive worship and intentional dialogue across racial/ethnic difference. Funds from this offering provide for leadership development in our camps, our communities and our congregations as well as providing resources to promote small group study and community-action.

Your giving is changing lives and building hope for the realm of God for our children and for Christ's Church!

A special offering envelope will be included with next week’s newsletter.

Annual Thanksgiving Dinner

The Disciples Women will host the annual Thanksgiving Dinner on November 10 at 6:00 PM in Fellowship Hall.

Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, noodles, dressing, rolls, and drinks will be provided. Please bring your own table service and a vegetable, salad and/or dessert to share.

We have added a new event this year: Silent Auction. There will be five baskets in the Parlor on November 3 and 10 to bid on; we will take them to Fellowship Hall during the dinner. Each basket will go to the highest bidder. A basket will be made by each group of the Disciples Women. 20% of the money made on the baskets will go to the Salvation Army and 80% will help with the cabinetry to be purchased for the south kitchen wall.

Please begin making reservations on the Friendship Register for this dinner. Just put a number beside your name and we will know it is a reservation for the dinner.

You won’t want to miss it!

Clergy Appreciation Day

October 20 Fellowship Hall 12:00 NOON

October is Minister’s Appreciation month so to show our appreciation and thanks to Rev. Kelly and Anne, the Worship and Membership departments will be hosting a Minister’s Appreciation luncheon on Sunday, October 20, immediately following the church service.

This will be a soup, salad and dessert occasion. The departments will furnish the soup, drinks and table service. You are asked to bring a salad or dessert to share.

We will have a basket in the Parlor that morning if you would like to bring a card to be presented to them at the meal.

New Website Redesign

FCC's website has a facelift!  Check it out at fccmacomb.org.

Church History

Two scrapbooks are on display in the parlor that contain church history of First Christian.

They contain information and pictures from the late 1940s to the mid- 1990s. Much of the information also has is about Christian Women’s Fellowship.
I will leave them in the parlor for a couple of weeks for you to peruse if you are interested.

Thank You

I want to thank the church family for the many prayers said on my behalf, phone calls, cards and food that was brought to me.

I am recuperating slowly from my fall and appreciate all of you so much.  Hope to return to church soon!
